About the course

TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. ICD offers First (120hrs) and Advanced (150hrs) certificates in TEFL. The TEFL qualification aims to provide you with English Language Teaching skills. The program expands and deepens teachers’ knowledge and practical skills needed to teach EFL. The course helps improve teaching quality and supports internationalization.

The TEFL course is modular in nature with flexible delivery options of: online, Face to Face & blended learning. There is a written, paper based exam by Cambridge at the end of each module and participants receive a certificate of Teaching Knowledge Test by Cambridge each time. Upon completion of the relevant course credits, the participants receive a 120 hrs First or a 150 hrs advanced certificate in TEFL by ICD.

Who is this course for?

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification is a commonly required qualification for new and experienced teachers and ELT graduates  who want to teach English anywhere in the world.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates should have:

  • At least 14 years of education
  • B2 level or above in English i.e. good language proficiency
    • PLAR (Prior Learning and Assessment Route) is available with course credit exemptions. Contact your nearest ICD centre for details.

Admission Process:

Step 1: Submit your application by filling out the ICD APPLICATION FORM. shortlisted candidates will receive an offer letter.

Step 2: Pay the Admission and Registration Fee (£110 for 120hrs and £115 for 150hrs, unless otherwise stated in your offer letter). Note that this is the first installment and is included in your total fee.

Step 3: The offer letter and fee receipt need to be uploaded to the registration form.

Please note that the remaining fee is payable in up to 6 installments for the 120hrs course and 7 installments in the 150hrs course, as convenient.

 

What will you learn?

120 hr TEFL Participants will have to complete 3 compulsory and any 1 specialized module.

150 hr TEFL participants will have to complete 3 compulsory and 2 specialized modules.

The modules are as below:

Compulsory Module 1: Language and background to language learning and teaching.
Compulsory Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
Compulsory Module 3:Managing the teaching and learning process
Specialized Module 4: CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)
Specialized Module 5: YL (Young Learners)

Note that the course is available with rolling modules and you may not be taught in the above order.

Assessment:

There is a written exam at the end of each module. The participants need to physically appear at ICD Respective offices in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, in order to give the Modular exams accordingly.

Module 1: Language and background to language learning and teaching.

Module 2: Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching.

Module 3: Managing the teaching and learning process, including classroom management.

Module 4: Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)

Module 5: Young Learner (YL)

You will receive a Cambridge Certificate for each Module exam.

The learning outcomes for each module are as below:

Lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach

Lesson delivery and assessment in CLIL contexts

YL Learning and development in young learners

The strategies and skills required to teach young learners aged 6–12 years

Lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support young learners

Lesson delivery and assessment in young learner contexts.

Recommended Resource Material

Resource material will be provided during the course. However, the following books can be used to supplement the available resources:

  • The Primary English Teacher’s Guide.By Brewster, Jean et al. Pearson Education Ltd.
  • How to Teach English by Harmer, Jeremy. Pearson Education Ltd.
  • The TKT Course Modules 1,2 and 3 by Mary Spratt, Alan Pulverness and Melanie Williams-Cambridge
  • TKT Course CLIL Module by Kay Bentley-Cambridge

Awarding Body

You will receive a certificate for 120hr First Certificate in TEFL from Institute of Career Development – Cambridge Authorized Teaching Qualification Centre. For each TEFL module that you complete, you will receive the certificate from Cambridge Assessment English – Part of University of Cambridge. It means you will get 5 certificates if you complete the 120 hr course and 6 certificates if you complete the 150 hr course.

We will send your certificate to you approximately two months upon the completion of the course.

After Completing TEFL Teaching Course, you can take other teaching qualifications of Cambridge English such as CELT-S and CELTA.
